At last

My thesis proposal was approved today. At last.

It is good news, but was delivered with a spoonful of bitter advice. "Stop being so whiny, Penelope", my Advisor told me. "You drain the oxygen out of all your relationships when you mention your illness".

Good to know, I didn't realize that I was causing O2 issues for the folks on my committee!

  1. Gasp! That was inappropriate on the advisor's part. So sorry you had such an experience - and on a day that was supposed to be joyous! Well, congrats, way to go, and keep up the good work!

  2. I'm with Headstrong! Even if your advisor thought that, he should have kept his mouth shut! Ignore him. CONGRATULATIONS!

  3. Ugh. That is so lame. Your advisor, of all people, should be someone who is supposed to offer some support, not tell you that you're being whiny. I will ask my toddler (who is in a smacking phase) to do some smacking in your advisor's honor.

    And congrats on you thesis!

  5. Congrats on the approval. Boo hiss to teh advisor. I would say something to the advisor. Sounds like there are some perception issues that could hurt you later on.

  6. Your advisor should have probably kept his/her mouth shut.

However, I know that people like me less when I complain. About anything. People like being around positive people. People who aren't sick (or at least who don't talk about it). So, while the comment was mean, it was probably also true.

    Sucks though.
